I recently came across the following leaflets that came with the set, saved by my dad between the pages of an old family bible (click to enlarge, or save image for full-size):
Did you know that the handle on the winding key was designed to test the correct spacing between the rails?
It seems from the following that only boys who join are entitled to the privilege of free expert advice. Does that mean that girls had to pay? I’m tempted to send off one shilling and 3 pence (6p today) for the official badge and special booklet on my daughter’s behalf:
Ha, quite right! Nice pic here of the ladies who made the Meccano and Hornby sets at the Binns Road factory here though - http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/meccano-dinky-inventor-frank-hornby-3817527. Sadly long-demolished now...
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. But it looks like they are making the smaller 00 gauge in the picture (sorry if that's geeky). Scrolled through all 16 photos in the gallery. Wow that crane! Had it in mind to do a post about Meccano at some point. Won't be doing one about Frankie Vaughan though.
DeleteMany Thanks for making the plans & parts list available.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your appreciative comment. Whenever I find something like this I think it important to make it as widely available as possible because there must be very few of these leaflets still in existence and they will be of interest at least to someone somehere.
DeleteThanks for plans etc, Just got my first Engine off ebay, now I know what track to get.
