I can‘t believe you don‘t know that song! It is 10 years older than myself and was a big hit at the time: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splish_Splash_(song)
We have usually only put shallow ones out before, but now we're wondering how big and deep they would use. Unfortunately, Mrs D won't let me use her biggest kitchen bowl. She said something about the salad being contaminated by starlings.
When I saw the title of this blogpost, I thought I was about to see you and Mrs Dunham romping and giggling in a bubble bath. In the event, it was just a bunch of scraggy starlings bickering with each other around an old water bowl.
We put it out for the fox and thought it was too deep for the birds, and were surprised to see them jumping right in up to their beaks. The sloping sides and unglazed ceramic texture might make them feel more confident.
Great and would make great rainbows with the sun behind it. We used a big plastic tray from a propagator (about 24" by18" and about 2" deep) - everything has bathed in that - even Bernard the seagull. The crows wash their food in it, and I am amazed how many creatures make a detour into the garden just for a drink (or to fish out bits of washed crow food perhaps).
I welcome comments and hope to respond within a day or two, but my condition is making this increasingly difficult. Some days I might not look here at all. Also please note that comments on posts over 7 days old will not appear until they have been moderated.
That is delightful and very entertaining. I do like starlings.
ReplyDeleteIt's even funnier when 20 or 30 turn up, but we haven't put the camera out for a while. Low turn out today.
DeleteCome one, come all! The more, the merrier!
ReplyDeleteUnless you are at the bottom.
DeleteNow I have that song in my head, Splish Splash I was taking a bath… 😂
ReplyDeleteI am thankful I don't know that one, and I am not going to look it up.

Ha, that's lovely. You'll need a bigger bath!

DeleteSo cute :)
ReplyDeleteThey really go for loads of splashes!
I'm not sure they are cute with those sharp pointy beaks. The sparrows and blackbirds keep well out of the way, and even the pigeons are wary.
DeleteJaycee stole my comment! But Mrs D makes a sensible salad point.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. A few fleas, ticks, and feathers add extra protein.

DeleteHow lovely. Those birds look like they're really enjoying splashing about. I might put a big bowl out for them in my garden.

ReplyDeleteMight try something bigger. Have got some closer up and better video today, but want to try again with the sound on.
