Isn't ice wonderful? It got me thinking how you could leave out various bits of old household porcelain (sinks, loos, etc.) , fill them with water, let them freeze, then pull away the cracked porcelain.
Our outside loo was like that every winter when I was little. It's difficult enough getting them out of a plastic plant pot base without having to chip off porcelain.
My birds use the stream and pond and the stream running into the pond just kept the water aerated and ice free at that point. I was astonished that the rest of the pond had frozen. That's unusual here.
I welcome comments and hope to respond within a day or two, but my condition is making this increasingly difficult. Some days I might not look here at all. Also please note that comments on posts over two weeks old will not appear until they have been moderated.
Little avian skating rinks!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but they seem to prefer the water.
DeleteThat damn Debby beat me to my comment!
ReplyDeleteBetter than me - I didn't even think of it.
DeletePerhaps one of your local art galleries would be interested in exhibiting your ice installation?
ReplyDeleteOur house is like a local museum if that's any good.

ReplyDeleteMy imagination's working overtime.

DeleteIt's very sculptural! Ours melted in short order.
ReplyDeleteThis year's melted down to half a disk during the day. It stayed below zero for ten days in 2010.
DeleteYou could say it is chilly then - but we never do things by halves in Yorkshire.
ReplyDeleteChilly for two days. It's warmed up slightly this afternoon.
DeleteWe're high tech here. Our birds have a heated-birdbath on our deck. :)
ReplyDeleteSpoiled brats.
DeleteYou have an interesting ice sculpture there!
ReplyDeleteStrange how the top two tilted but remained stuck on.
DeleteIced frisbees! What an amazing idea. Mind you they wouldn't last long in Death Valley or Alice Springs.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't want to be hit in the face by one.
DeleteDon't worry. If slapping you in the face I would choose a haddock.
DeleteNot rapidly melting either.
ReplyDeleteThe half-disc is still there this morning.
DeleteYou're having too much fun.
ReplyDeleteYou should get your own plant pot base and see how high you can get. I bet you'd get double where you are.
DeleteIce has its very own beauty, doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteI edited the second image to more clearly show the fascinating cracks and bubbles inside in case people don't think to zoom in on the first picture.
DeleteLOve the collection!
ReplyDeleteAccumulated at one per day. It's just occurred to me one could cheat by using multiple plant pot trays.

ReplyDeleteI guess you have the benefits of the coast and the Gulf Stream.
DeleteAn ice calendar
ReplyDeleteA very nice calendar.
