Last year, our diagonally opposite rear neighbours installed an outdoor hot tub, a bit like this but not as nicely located, fixed to the back of their house, off what we would now call the patio doors.
Theirs has a solid black roof and sides, electric lighting, and curtains that close around for privacy. Personally, I would much prefer natural light in the room, to be able to look at the garden, see out of the patio doors, and walk out. Each to their own. It does not bother us. There’s nowt s’queer as folk.
It was clearly not private enough. Recently, after a week of sawing, drilling, and other woodworking noises, they erected this six-foot fence close to the house. It's a super piece of joinery. It even has a gate to access the garden. But, they cannot see much out of their downstairs windows at all now.
Why would they want such a hideous thing? Do they think that we, or our neighbours, or their neighbours, sit at our bedroom windows watching them in their hot tub through binoculars? Do they think we take photographs?
We have now started to refer to them as Mr. and Mrs. Sex Tub.
They had better not get splinters in their sphincters.
It does seem to suggest there are some strange goings-on there. I wonder if their neighbours either side have a better view or maybe they're included in the 'activities'.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I really want to know!
DeleteI can ask my snoopy neighbour for some tips on improving your view of their goings-on?
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about getting a hot tub? I'm sure he would like to come and try it if you did.
DeleteWhat are they hiding? Clearly something they don't want others to see.
ReplyDeleteWe wondered if they are nudists.
DeleteThat is so funny. Someone in my old village had one and they were old but enjoyed sitting out in the hot water - no sex involved. Hopefully!
ReplyDeleteWe rented a holiday cottage once that had one: outdoor and heated by charcoal. Nice in summer, perhaps. The kids liked it, but I didn't try it.
DeleteHot tubs are very popular with couples who wife swap, maybe that's why they have such a high fence.
ReplyDeleteRemind me not to accepts any invitations to visit their house.
DeleteThat's an attention-grabbing blog post title.
ReplyDeleteDo you have low fences where you live? All the garden fences round here are 6'.
So are ours, but you can see from our 15 foot pear tree that their house is higher up than ours. You can't see them from the ground.
DeleteSo you spent all that money on binoculars for nothing! Too bad.
ReplyDeleteI could get a drone.
DeleteAs you say, each to their own. I will never understand why people in places like my peaceful hometown feel the need to turn their tiny gardens into fortresses, no doubt making them feel even tinier behind high fences or - my personal pet hate - gabbion walls. Same as I will never understand why people want to constantly listen to music or podcasts while outdoors, when it is so lovely to hear birdsong and many other sounds of nature.
ReplyDeleteI agree entirely, although you can see from their side fence that the gardens here are quite long. Even so, many round here have now paved them over. We have not seen any hedgehogs at all this year on the night cam.
DeleteThat fence would have aroused my curiosity, even if I hadn't been interested before! So now we wonder what's going on there..
ReplyDeleteAs responded above, we wondered if they are nudists.
DeleteDo you think they are that sophisticated they get out of the tub to use the toilet to have a wee? Great blog post title Tasker. I have sure you will get a few thousand hits today 😀
ReplyDeleteThink of the vegetables you could grow in a tub like that! What do you think of our pear tree?
DeleteIt's a beauty. Are the houses made of Accrington brick?
DeleteThat's pretty funny! Maybe they can see you taking that photo of their property! They're thinking, "We're gonna need a taller wall!" ;)
ReplyDeleteI was as quick as possible. They have not been round to complain. I had my story ready that I was photographing the trees to show the tree surgeon what needed doing.
DeleteWell, if there weren't rumors about them before, there are now!
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't read this.
DeleteNo hot tub here, but I did put up tall screens on one side of my deck because the next door neighbor is a voyeur. Any time we stepped on the deck, he would place his lawn chair directly across from our deck and proceed to sit and stare. Even now, when I only go out on the deck to fill the bird feeders, I can hear him come outside. But at least I don't have to see him anymore. Too creepy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the hot tub folks have a similar problem or maybe they're modest and just like to hot tub sans swimwear. :)
He sounds like JaySee's Mr. Nosey. You would think they would have better ways to occupy their time.
