Pottery

Daughter’s pottery business.

Newly made mugs drying out, awaiting handles:

In kiln with other things, after first firing:

Being glazed, ready for second firing:

Finished, ready for craft market:

The spoon rests are popular, as are the mugs. You could probably buy six or more mass-produced supermarket mugs for the same price but it is pleasing to have a hand-made mug for your morning tea or coffee. People buy them as their special mugs, and return for presents. The coffee bowls and little jugs have been doing well recently, too. On a good day, she can take £800.

  1. Nothing better than handmade pottery or glass. Beautiful

    1. I still use my commercial "Big Mug". The issue I have with the hand made mugs is that they are heavy. Otherwise, yes, they are a joy to use.

    1. She had good colour sense, unlike me. I can't see red.

    1. It amazes me how she turns out so many different designs, and that they all look great. If I made them they would look terrible.

  5. I like the pastel colours, very spring-like. Spoon rests are a good idea!

    1. Spoon rests are essential for messy people like me.

  6. She certainly deserves a good return on this work. Making people's favorite mugs is important.

    1. It is, but they take a lot of time and work. Not something you make a fortune from.

  7. They all look wonderful. I especially like the dark blue and white pieces.

    1. I think the blue and white work really well.

  8. When traveling, I like to buy a small piece of hand-made pottery or carved wood as a memory of places I've been. Your daughter does lovely work. Like, JayCee, I am partial to the dark blues. Wish her the best of luck. Don't suppose she sells her things anywhere in York? Will be there on the 31st. :)

    1. I don't think she had any plans for York. I can be quite competitive to be accepted for some markets and venues.

    1. She could sell a lot more if it was possible to make it, but one only has so much time.

  10. They look well-made and attractive - rather like your daughter's parents! I would happily buy a couple of mugs from her as I often feel like a mug.

  11. no link to a site where they can be purchased/viewed?

    1. She sells her stuff mainly at craft markets. Wrapping them up safely and posting them off takes a lot of time.

  12. Lovely work. When I exhibited at shows I traded so much for pottery. Among my favorites was the mashed potato bowl.

    1. My daughter often comes back from the craft markets several pieces made by others.

  13. Those vases are adorable. I like her cup handles. (Very important feature for my mugs). However, I'd need a much larger cup. You see, I only have one cup of coffee, so it has to be a doozie.

    1. The bigger they are, the more difficult to make. I still use my mass-produced pint mut.

  14. I love the colours, especially the blue. It is a good line in mugs.

    1. I think the colours are what attracts people. A lot of pottery is more subdued. The bright colours are fun, but they have to be done tastefully.

    1. They were made with paper, folded multiple times and then cut to create the repeating pattern. This is then stuck to the plate and the blaze applied over them. It works well.

  16. Beautiful ceramics – what a wonderful craft. It's wonderful to create something beautiful with your own hands.
I love going to ceramics markets... and a nice cup is a must for my coffee or tea :-))) Not to mention the vases... :-)
    Best wishes from Viola

    1. Thank you Viola, and thank you for visiting.
I am having difficulty translating your blog because I have to use the computer to read it aloud. I can get the text translation but not the test-to-speech. I can no longer read normally because of my condition.
